That’s how the e-book works!

Click on any pattern name in the Smart Pictorial Index to see all the information we have on that pattern, neatly presented in a consistent “facts sheet” format, like the Laurel Band example shown below.

At the bottom of each page in our e-book you can click on a link to return to the index, or, because it is laid out in book format, you can just continue to read on to the next pattern.

LAUREL BAND

Covered bonbonniere, or sugar (5653), blue

 Catalogue References: 1939

Pattern: vertical ribs surround the items (24 ribs on the large tumbler), the entire design being topped off with an encircling band of laurel. An intricate circular design that reflects the vertical ribs and laurel band is featured on the ground base. The same complex design can be found inside the lid and on the finial of the covered bonbonniere.

Shapes reported in Carnival: large tumbler, 4 inch high x 2.5 inch base (10 cm x 6.5 cm); pitcher; covered bonbonniere (or covered sugar); open salt 2.5 inches wide x 1.5 inches high (7 cm x 4 cm).

Colours reported in Carnival: blue for pitcher, tumbler and the bonbonniere/sugar; marigold for pitcher (marigold tumblers are likely, but not yet reported to us). The open salt is currently only reported in marigold.

Comments: items in this pattern were shown in the Riihimäki 1939 catalogue: 5151 (tall pitcher), 5015 (large tumbler), 5653 (covered bonbonniere or covered sugar), 5754 (single salt dip)—all these are known in Carnival. A smaller tumbler, 5016, is illustrated. Other shapes shown but not yet reported in Carnival are: 5319 and 5320, (2.5 inch to 3 inch wide bowls with sloping sides), 5631 (open sugar), 5632 (creamer), 5411 (long stemmed comport).
